We work directly with miners in Montana to source our rough sapphires, then have each stone hand-cut by our dedicated team. Our cutting process is designed to remove as little material as possible, preserving the natural character, color, and shape of the original rough.
Rather than forcing each stone into a standardized shape, we create sapphires that are naturally one of a kind, with their own character and proportions.
We chose to work with 18k palladium white gold for its naturally cool, crisp appearance, durability, and long-term wear. Nickel is commonly used in traditional white gold, but it is not a metal we choose to work with. Nickel is one of the most common causes of metal contact allergies, so our white gold is completely nickel-free.
Unlike traditional white gold, ours is also unplated. Many white gold pieces are rhodium-plated to create a brighter white finish, but that plating wears over time and requires maintenance. Our palladium gives the gold its cool white color naturally, so there is no plating to wear away.
The result is a durable, low-maintenance metal with a naturally cool finish chosen deliberately for pieces meant to be worn for years and passed down for generations.

How It's Made
The cast in wood process is a method of forging 18k gold in hand carved wooden boxes. It is an old technique, used by the Ancient Romans, and has not been seen for a thousand years or more. At Rigby Leigh, we have re-developed this technique and are the only ones in the world working this way.
This technique leaves the ring with the shape and finish of the natural wood grain, for a uniquely organic look. It also means each piece is unique and un-repeatable. No two pieces ever can look the same, because it is all down to the natural grain.
Each piece is then presented in a handmade wood box, made out of the wooden crucible it was cast in. This box beautifully preserves the moment in nature captured in your piece, a beautiful keepsake or an unforgettable presentation piece.
